Peter Murray Computer Programmer by day Soo Bahk Do Instructor by night.
Peter was watching his son Ian take a fencing class a taught by Max Catala. While watching this class it seem very much like Max was teaching a Martial arts class but applied to fencing. This style of instruction was very different than what he observed at other fencing schools. The thought how well the fencing students would do with the tools of a Martial Art at their disposal excited Peter and Max.
While Max knew nothing about Soo Bahk Do and Peter knew nothing about Kendo, after some discussion they discovered that the philosophies and key concepts were very much in sync with another. The idea of combining the two arts into one class became an exciting challenge for both of them. This challenge of how to combine the arts but still keep them pure was one neither could pass up.
Ever since starting Soo Bahk Do in 1983 at the Princeton School of Karate he has enjoyed his training and applied it on a regular basis to his everyday life. The discipline and confidence he learned in the martial arts studio helped him get through his everyday challenges. Without this martial arts foundation he is positive his life would have turned out very differently, for the worse.
His passion is to help others discover what he did from his instructors and to pass this knowledge on to other.
Peter is now co-teaching with Max Catala a free weekly class interleaving Kendo and Soo Bahk Do in a single 90 minute class.
