My teaching and practice are inspired by the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. I give clear instructions on structural alignment, which helps to align the body and develop awareness. Each student receives individual attention within a group class. The poses (asanas) are taught in a systematic way, first by building the foundation of the poses within a class and then by reinforcing and refining the poses in subsequent classes.
Props such as chairs, bolsters, blankets, and blocks are used to modify poses to meet individual physical needs and to enhance the benefits of a pose.
This approach is therapeutic in many ways. Paying attention to the physical body is the gateway to moving inward and developing self-awareness and cultivating calmness. Both the physical and psychological aspects of our being are affected. Strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility are qualities developed in both body and mind. With practice, one begins to develop discriminative awareness, which becomes infused into everyday life.
I welcome and enjoy teaching both new and seasoned practitioners in both group and private classes.
