Julie Grossman, TIYT is a certified trauma-informed yoga teacher. She has been a belly dance performer and instructor around the country for over 15 years developing dance and yoga fusion classes. She blends beginners yoga, sacred movement, meditation, and (when appropriate) ritual to assist women in being present in their bodies and connecting to the divine feminine. She has also spent a number of years studying a variety of martial arts, which she incorporates into movement exercises.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts (before completing her Master’s), studying the Margolis Method of physical acting for dancers at the University of Minnesota, where she danced for Crisis Point: Theatre of Danger and Opportunity, worked as a performing arts intern for persons with mental trauma and disabilities, and wrote a thesis on performance art in creating political change. She teaches movement and dance as a vehicle for self expression and social activism.
A survivor of sexual assault, she has worked with the Texas state legislature, media and other activists, advocating on behalf of victims, expanding protections against sexual assault.
Born and raised in Minnesota, she resides in Saint Paul with her husband, son, and pug.
