Carmine Grieco

Carmine Grieco received his doctoral degree from Old Dominion University and is now an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at Colorado Mesa University. A personal trainer with over 15 years training experience, he successfully made the transition from trainer to university professor in 2012. Carmine is a past West Virginia state director for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), current Colorado state director for the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP) and also holds certifications as a yoga teacher, exercise physiologist and health coach. Carmine’s research focuses on understanding the role of the autonomic nervous system in disease and aging, with an emphasis on optimal aging strategies geared toward maintaining the highest level of functionality throughout life. Highlights of his prior research includes: • The effect of aerobic exercise intensity on insulin sensitivity • The effect of melatonin supplementation on glucose metabolism and oxidative stress in type 2 diabetes • The effect of yogic breathing exercises on heart rate variability in type 2 diabetes • The effect of exercise on post-prandial glucose metabolism, mood and heart rate variability in type 2 diabetes.
